Mercedes Schlapp is not the White House's strategist communications adviser. She's faced with the president, who acts as his own director of communications as well as numerous legal fights which can disrupt the strategy of communication for the administration as well as a host of Cabinet secretaries ensnared in their own disputes. Yet, through all of it Schlapp remains focussed on the task in hand and has worked closely with White House's policy and legislative affairs teams and policy shops, as well as the broader communications operation to coordinate policy rollouts. She has focused on topics like school safety, opiates, infrastructure, and trade. As a current employee she isn't communicating with reporters. The media attention she received in March was when she was named one of the contenders to succeed Hope Hicks. Mercedes Schlapp's position as White House Strategic Communications Advisor isn't an easy task. It's not easy for Mercedes Schlapp to be the White House's communications strategic advisor. She's faced with many challenges, such being a president who is his communications director. But through it all Schlapp remains focused on the mission at hand, working closely with the White House's political and legislative affairs departments and policy shops, as well in the communications department to coordinate policy rollouts. So far, Schlapp has concentrated on school safety issues, addiction infrastructure, trade, and addiction. In her current position she doesn't deal too much with journalists. She did draw a flurry of attention in March when her name was floated as a contender to replace Hope Hicks as communications director. There's been some tense fights. Schlapp's ally Tony Sayegh and an alternative candidate who is also named Tony started jousting with each other during the media coverage. Schlapp confronted Sayegh following the Washington Examiner printed a bad article about his character.
